Poetry makes a great Christmas gift

Buy Heaven Was the Moon: Poems by Kory Wells instead of a scented candle for Aunt Ruby this year.

Not sure what to get Uncle Ed or Aunt Ruby for Christmas? Trying, as I am, to support the local economy or artists anywhere this year with your holiday purchases? Have you considered a small volume of lovely and highly readable poetry, inscribed to the recipient, as an inexpensive yet meaningful gift? Heaven Was the Moon sure beats another necktie, coffee mug or scented candle. So don’t wait, order now!

Now, after that word from our sponsor, an update on my poetry book:

As many of you know, my first collection of poetry, Heaven Was the Moon, was released by March Street Press in September, just in time for the Southern Festival of Books. It was wonderful to see so many friends in the audience.

Unfortunately, distribution of my book to local and online bookstores has been a bit slow. Although the Murfreesboro Barnes & Noble has been trying valiantly to get the book for weeks and set me up for an event there, it is not going to happen before Christmas. The book is listed on Amazon now, but still shows 0 in stock. I think that is supposed to change soon.

As some of you know, my daughter Kelsey, now a freshman in college, accompanied my reading with fiddle, banjo and mandolin tunes. One good thing about this delay is that it is giving us time to develop more of a show featuring her music and my words. We are very excited about this and hope to entertain at a venue near you in 2010.

In the meantime,  I do have books, even if the bookstores don’t, so I’m now offering copies of the book for sale from my website. Payment is fast, easy and secure via PayPal – although you do NOT have to have a PayPal account to buy – we accept any major credit card.

Order today at http://www.korywells.com/heavenwasthemoon.htm#buyonline

Copies are $11 each, which includes shipping and handling. Of course if you’re in the Boro, you can also shoot me an email and I’ll be glad to arrange a delivery in exchange for cash or check. My books are also available at JoZoara’s Coffee Shop in Murfreesboro and Designz by You/Coffeez by Us in Bell Buckle – more details about these store locations area also on my website. Now, I know some of you are WAITING to buy at an event, and that’s perfectly fine – I’m going to want to see your smiling and supportive faces when the time comes! But if you need a gift for Aunt Ruby…

This fall has been an extremely busy time for our family as we renovate a home in Bell Buckle as a writing retreat. I greatly look forward to, first of all, being done with that (!), and second of all, being in touch again with news of some small classes and events to be held there in 2010!

The best to you and yours this holiday season!
